Thursday, 29 January 2009Portland, OR - Industry veterans Erik Olson and Dan Powell have launched Portland Design Works (PDW), a new brand of urban bicycle accessories with a focus on simple, beautiful design. The first two categories of product, grips and inflation, will begin shipping in mid-February and can be viewed on the new PDW website, Read Full Story blank">www.ridepdw.com. Cargo racks, tools, mini-pumps and fenders will be available by late spring.
PDW is still finalizing their national distribution lineup, but hopes to have their goods available nationwide by summer. Products will be available direct to bicycle shops in the city of Portland, and Powell and Olson will deliver the orders by bicycle.
"We want to be a part of the community, to have a connection," says Olson, "plus making deliveries by bike is a great excuse to get out and ride."
Olson and Powell last collaborated as the general manager and sales/marketing guy, respectively, for Planet Bike. The new venture is a dream come true for the native Midwesterners, who are excited to be living in Portland.
"You'd start a surf company near great waves, or a wind farm on an enormous plain. Likewise, we moved to Portland because its bike-friendly culture allows so many folks to get around easily by bike," says Powell. "We wanted to design and test our gear in that great urban cycling atmosphere."
PDW is a member of 1% For the Planet, an alliance of businesses that donate at least 1% of their annual revenues to environmental organizations worldwide.

Wednesday, 28 January 2009Chanoko Mountain Bike Duathlon Series #1 will be held on February 7, 2009 at Folsom Lake, Granite Beach, Granite Bay, CA. The event starts at 9:00AM.
The Chanoko Mt Bike Duathlon is a 2 mile run-12 mile mt bike-2 mile run off-road Duathlon. The run and bike trails are all natural, beautiful, scenic and single track. Race entry includes custom Chanoko race t-shirt, hot post race meal, athlete goody bag, post race massage, and raffle prizes.
Race all three of the 2009 Chanoko Mountain Bike Duathlon Series held on February 7, February 21 and March 8, 2009.

Tuesday, 27 January 2009Vancouver B.C. - Rocky Mountain Bicycles (RMB) is proud to announce the new Rocky Mountain Bicycles Factory XC-Epic Racing Team.
Rocky Mountain Bicycles has been at the forefront of all facets of mountain bike competition; from early DH and XC victories (circa 1991*) to pioneering Freeride and most recently dominating epic stage racing.
With wins in almost every notable race on the planet, RMB decided to officially create a team dedicated to non-World Cup events. The new team will be attending epic stage races, all-mountain events, festivals, enduros and any other bike event that represents fun on two wheels.
Alison Sydor, Mountain Bike Hall of Fame member, three time World Champion, and Olympic Silver Medalist is returning to the Rocky Mountain team in 2009. Alison had an extremely successful season in 2008, winning both the Cape Epic Challenge and the Trans Alp Challenge. In 2009, she will be looking for more stage racing domination with confirmed starts at Cape Epic, TransGermany, and TransAlp.
A Rocky Mountain factory team wouldn't be complete without cross country racing legend Andreas Hestler aka 'Dre', a Canadian Olympian and three time winner of the Trans Rockies. Dre had a successful 2008 season, winning a stage at both the BC Bike Race and the Trans Rockies. For 2009 he will be targeting various other races and epic single day events, such as the Downieville Classic and the Fruita Fat Tire Festival.
New to the factory team are Stefan Widmer and Marty Lazarski, formerly of the Rocky Mountain-Different Bikes squad. Both have several Canada Cup podium finishes to their credit and together finished 3rd overall in the 2008 TransRockies stage race.
Rounding out the team is Evan Guthrie, the 2008 Canadian Junior XC and Cyclocross Champion. Still with a year left in the junior category, Evan is poised for another stellar season.

Thursday, 22 January 2009Stromlo Forest Park signed a sponsorship deal with Jared Rando, a multiple time National mountain bike champion, coinciding with the 2009 Australian MTB National Championships also being held at the Park this week.
"Territory Venues and Events is extremely excited about Jared Rando signing up with Stromlo Forest Park, a synergy that we feel goes hand in hand," said Neale Guthrie, Gene ral Manager of Territory Venues and Events.
"Jared Rando is very well known amongst fellow MTB champions and within the MTB networks both locally and internationally."
"The relationship with Stromlo Forest Park being home to several mountain bike championship events including last year's SCOTT Australian 24hr and the UCI Mountain Bike and Trials World Championships to be held in September this year also highlights the fact that this agreement is a perfect match," said Mr Guthrie.
In tandem with the exciting sponsorship deal, Stromlo Forest Park also welcomes the Australian Mountain Bike National Championships, showcasing the best off road riding in Australia across all disciplines. Jared Rando began racing Downhill when he was 15 years old and was first selected for the Australian team for the World Championships when he was 16. He has competed for Australia as a junior for three years and finished third at the 1999 World Championships in Sweden.
His first year as a pro in the US was in 2000 and he finished 7th overall in the US National Series for 2000, as well as winning the Australian National Series for the 1999/2000 season and the 2000/2001 season.
In 2003 Jared Rando signed a two year deal with Giant and has been with Giant ever since.
