Celebrating prowess in the seventeenth century missionary groups conducted across the mountains and jungles to reach current and founding peoples of Peru's central jungle, El Reto de los Misioneros will take place in The Mountain Bike Reto de los Misioneros on September 20 - 21, 2008. This competition, in the form of a marathon, aims to promote tourism in the area and the sport to the healthy peo ple especially the youth.

The first edition of this competition took place in 2007 with the participation of different cyclists from all over Peru, involving the press and the public.

For the second year, elite cyclists and fans from different countries are expected in the event. Participation will be broken down into categories: Open Men, Open Women, Master A and B, providing approximately 120 cyclists, without escorts and press.

The event will include art events and entertainment for the residents present at the targets. It also foresees the participation of business and information booths of the sponsors on these points.

Milestones
Like last year, the competition will be carried out in three stages, two days, but this time the mileage will be higher, increasing the difficulty of the test. On September 20, there will be two stages, each an average of 50 km. On September 21, "the passage of the 3 mountains" will be held, with an average of 80 km, including a large part of mountainous topography.

From the Andes to the jungle
On the first stage,, cyclists will leave Ricran (Tambillo), location of the Peruvian Andes, and will head towards the jungle.

The congresillo technician will take place on the evening of September 19 in the city of Ocopa, place from which, according to the story, the first missionaries departed.

All cyclists and enthusiasts are invited to enjoy the sun, climate, tourist sites, and the warmth of chanchamayinos under the patron saint festivities which start the Merced Chanchamayo, and only six hours from Lima.

The International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, and to help mark the occasion, National Park Service Director Mary A. Bomar will give a keynote address at the organization's 2008 World Summit. One of the U.S. government's most senior officials charged with managing federal lands, Director Bomar's attendance will provide significant inspiratio n to IMBA's long-standing stewardship and advocacy work.

As leader of the National Park Service (NPS), Bomar is responsible for 391 sites and a team of 20,000 employees who work to preserve America's special places. IMBA and the National Park Service are in the fourth year of a formal partnership to consider new opportunities for mountain bicycling on NPS-managed lands.

The 2008 IMBA World Summit will be held in Park City, Utah, June 18-21. Held biannually for more than a decade, IMBA Summits bring mountain biking advocates, land managers, ski resort professionals, trailbuilders, park and urban planners, tourism officials, and the bike industry together for collaboration, planning, and celebration.

IMBA is a vocal supporter of the NPS Centennial Initiative, a campaign to boost funding for the agency's 100th anniversary in 2016. Over the next decade, the project would dedicate an additional $100 million a year for park operations, and $100 million annually to match donations to the National Park Service for centennial projects and programs.

The Centennial Challenge matching fund legislation must be approved by Congress, and IMBA has mobilized mountain bicyclists to support the campaign. Recently, more than 500 cyclists took this message in person to Capitol Hill.

Also speaking at the Summit are Utah Governor Jon Huntsman and senior recreation officials from the National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Bureau of Land Management, and Parks Canada. Other featured speakers include John Burke, president of Trek Bicycles; Glen Jacobs, a renowned Australian trailbuilder; and more than 50 other trail and recreation experts.

Visit the IMBA Summit webpage for the latest news, a full agenda, list of speakers, and registration details.

MTBcut.tv has been announced as the official media partner to the Nissan UCI Mountain Bike World Cup at Fort William. Running from Friday to Sunday, June 6 - 8, 2008, every lung-busting climb, jump, wipeout, and dramatic twist and turn will be captured by Scotland's leading extreme sport internet television channel.

The Nissan UCI Mountain Bike World Cup series is the most prestigiou
s and the most extreme competition in the world's mountain biking calendar. Next weekend, as many as 400 world-class riders from more than 35 countries will compete in three of the most gruelling and high-speed events in extreme freesports - Downhill, 4 Cross, and the Olympic discipline of Cross Country.

MTBcut.tv (www.mtbcut.tv) will be hosting live coverage of the cross country, four-cross, and downhill races on the channel throughout the weekend together with extensive video on demand reporting and coverage of the whole event; from pit and tech areas to the medal ceremonies and all the buzz and excitement of the event village.

They will also be providing a full content and management service for the Monster Energy-sponsored open-air studio/stage, the largest video screen in Europe. The onsite screen measures an enormous 45 square meters that folds out of the trailer of a 40-ton articulated lorry! It will be operational for three full days with a mixture of live action, edited highlights, and pre-recorded video being broadcast.

Stu Thomson from MTBcut.tv said: "We are really excited about our partnership with the World Cup at Fort William. It gives us the best possible platform to showcase our skills, services, and expertise on an international stage. We are really pleased to be working with the organizers, Rare Management, who have staged such fantastic mountain bike events at Fort William since 2002."

On site within the event village, MTBcut will also have full live and video editing suites together with computing facilities for encoding and installing completed video on to their London-hosted servers.

Stu Thomson added: "We have just made a major investment in a live editing system ahead of Fort William which is ideal for broadcasting on the big screen and the separate web casting set up we will have at the World Cup. This state-of-the-art kit will allow us to create big screen content from multiple camera input, pre-recorded video, adverts, and digital graphics. At the same time, we can stream live to the internet, not just on our channel but to any specific web sites looking to host our World Cup content. Given our background in and understanding of mountain biking and other extreme and adventure sports, we hope that this system will attract organizers of the growing number of outdoor events being staged annually throughout Scotland."

MTBcut.tv is a free to air service with no subscriptions and is dependent upon advertising and production-generated revenue. MTBcut.tv operates in partnership with London-based Narrowstep Ltd, one of the world's leaders in this technology. Narrowstep (www.narrowstep.com) operates on a worldwide basis and hosts several hundred tv channels.

Recently, the team at MTBcut.tv have turned their hand to various other filmmaking projects including technical instructional videos for cycle brake manufacturer Hope Technologies and a promotional video for the charity Braveheart. They are also acutely aware of the major commercial benefits of embedded video advertising on the web to the mountain bike industry and wider commercial markets. As a result, they will be showcasing video advertising films on the big screen at Fort William with matching campaigns running on the MTBcut.tv channel. Advertisers who will benefit from this service at the World Cup include some of the big names in the bike industry including Orange Bikes and Fox Suspension.

Earlier this May, Governor Daniels announced the award of trail grants to 28 different projects across Indiana, including $250,000 in funding for the Hoosier Mountain Bike Association (HMBA). This funding, along with $150,000 of in-kind donations from the mountain biking community, will be used to build new shared-use trails at Versailles, O'Bannon Woods, and Harmonie State Parks. In total, more than 20 miles of new trail will be created.

Indiana is also investing $750,000 for the paved Salt Creek Trail that will connect Nashville to Brown County State Park (BCSP), where HMBA is currently executing a $150,000 Recreational Trails Program (RTP) grant and a $10,000 Bikes Belong grant. A successful combination of professional trailbuilders and HMBA volunteers has already created more than 20 miles of world-class trails at BCSP.

These projects will provide incredible recreational opportunities for local residents, and will also likely draw national-level attention to Indiana's outdoor recreation offerings. HMBA will work with the International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA) to put trails on the ground quickly and further develop the statewide infrastructure for shared-use trails.

HMBA plans to base their trail design and construction on IMBA's best practices. This ensures that the trails will be enjoyed by generations to come. HMBA will be looking for local support to help build these and other trails throughout the state. Professional trail builders will work alongside volunteers. Since volunteers will provide much of the basic labor, the professional trailbuilders will be free to focus on the skilled tasks that maximize trail mileage while at the same time building world-class trail features.
