After nearly two decades since mountain biking was first introduced in Roaring Fork Valley, Aspen, local riders have finally come together to ensure their access to trails in the area. This week, they forma
lly announced the birth of the Roaring Fork Mountain Bike Association.
The said association aims to maintain riders' access to the trails. The group will also be working hand in hand with public land managers in order to ensure that the trails are developed to meet the increasing demands of the sport.
The group currently has 100 members. The founders are hoping that they will have 1000 riders by the end of this year.

Aside from being a highly popular outdoor activity, mountain biking has also been a vital contributor in southern Scotland’s economic boost.
According to reports, mountain biking as well as the area’s trails and facilities managed to contribute approximately £9 million to the local economy.
A survey which is set to be published this week shows that mountain biking facilities such as 7stanes centres, which spread from Glentress to Dumfries, have garnered nearly 400,000 mountain bikers last year. As a result, the area got a significant increase in the number of visitors.

The West Coast Racing cycling club has finally received permission to hold the Fat Wheel Festival at the Burnaby Mountain Conservation Area, British Columbia on July 13.
The park commissioners have given their unanimous approval in the parks and recreation commission meeting which was held last February 20 at the Confederation Centre.
Meanwhile, event organizers are diligently working on the preparation for the said cross-country mountain bike festival. It will feature various activities such as a biking expo, demo trails, a family relay event, bike race for beginners, and more. The event will be highlighted by a BC Cup race that will pass through the Cardiac Hill and the new Gearjammer route.

The WWF Cymru, based in Cardiff Bay, Wales, is calling on all mountain bike adventurers to come with their bikes and join a ride to explore Southeast Asia’s remaining wilderness. This adventure ride dubbed
as the first Eastern Plains Tour will be held from March 16-22.
The ride will include a trip to the WWF’s Srepok Wilderness Area project which is situated in the northeastern terrain of Cambodia. This aims to promote eco-tourism and to provide support to local communities as well as financial aid to the wildlife conservation project.

The registration for the upcoming 2008 US Open of Mountain Biking will start on March 7 at the Diablo Freeride Park in Vernon, NJ.
Event organizers said that the lineup for the mountain bike co mpetition is generally pre-registered, which is why all interested participants are invited to register ahead of time in order to land a qualifying position.
The US Open of Mountain Biking will be marking its sixth year. It will run from May 23 - 25. The winners for the men's and women's categories will take home a $5,000 prize purse.
