Freestyle, the original action sports watch manufacturer, announces its search for a new team rider. In conjunction with Loop'd.com, Freestyle is hosting a contest called "Are You Next?" which will ultimately res
ult in a year-long athlete sponsorship for one lucky winner.
Starting on November 28, 2007, athletes throughout North America will have a chance to win a coveted spot on Freestyle's official athlete roster. Surfers, wakeboarders, skateboarders, snowboarders, mountain bikers, bmx and motocross riders will submit their best action video or photo of themselves. Each week, for 12 weeks total, Freestyle will sort through every entry and pick one photo and one video winner weekly. Winners will then be entered to win the grand prize.
Weekly winners will receive a Freestyle prize pack including a watch worth up to $150.00, a t-shirt, wristband, hat and sticker packs. Should the contestants not win one week, they'll have a chance to submit another photo or video the next week, resulting in 12 chances to impress Freestyle and win. The grand prize winner, announced on February 29, 2007, will receive a one-year sponsorship including six watches per year, team t-shirts, hats, accessories, stickers as well as a photo and contest incentive bonus package. The winner will be well-represented by Freestyle with a profile on www.FreestyleUSA.com and a banner ad on the Freestyle homepage.
"The 'Are You Next?' contest is a great way for aspiring action sport athletes to gain exposure and take their game to the next level," said Freestyle Marketing Director, Chad LaBass. "A lot of these athletes live in areas that make it difficult to connect with sponsors, but by reaching out through the loopd.com social network we are giving them opportunity to make their presence known." Freestyle receives hundreds of emails each month with sponsorship inquiries. This contest gives athletes a chance to not just ask for a sponsorship but to prove that they are worthy of one. It is a great stepping stone for the winner to possibly earn a paid sponsorship by Freestyle for years to come.
Freestyle is looking for quality videos and photos. If possible, contestants should work with an experienced videographer or photographer to up their chances of being selected. Showing Freestyle some love will help too. Wearing a Freestyle watch or t-shirt and displaying Freestyle stickers on boards, bikes and helmets are great ways to catch the judges' eye. Contestants should stay on top of the game and see what they're up against by checking back to the site each week to compare their entries with the winning videos and photos.

Pennsylvania - The Jersey Shore Area School Board has finally approved the addition of mountain biking component in the high school health and physical education curriculum during a meeting held last Novem
ber 27.
The motion was approved unanimously regardless of the absence of two board members. Some clarifications regarding the possible effect of the program were also raised during the said meeting. This includes the possible cost of the campus grounds’ maintenance as well as making it possible for students with disabilities to join the said class.
Meanwhile, according to Superintendent Richard J. Emery, the mountain biking program will be incorporated in the curriculum and will be implemented next year.

The Harmonie State Park in New Harmony, Indiana is set to undergo some changes. A discussion on the said changes will be held at an open house this coming December 5.
According to the park’s renovation plan, some of the changes include relocation of the day-use horse trails to the Wabash River. The plan also involves the development of a new mountain bike trail, which will be set up in the southern area of the park.
The said discussion was organized by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and will take place at the Thrall’s Opera House at around three in the afternoon until six in the evening.

The sudden death of pro mountain biker Mike Janelle has caused shock all over the industry.
The three-time Race Across America champion passed away early Friday morning due to alleged heart at tack at his home in Avon, Colorado.
An autopsy is currently being conducted to determine the actual cause of Janelle’s death.
According to Janelle’s long-time friend and fellow mountain biking enthusiast Kelli Anthony Rohrig, “Everyone is completely shocked.”
Janelle, 40-year old biker, first embarked the cycling world in 1988. He then became a professional mountain biker in 1996.

Academy for Global Exploration (AGE) has just returned from a two-month climbing trip to South Africa’s Western Cape Province! Students climbed at Silvermine Crags in Cape Town, spent two weeks bouldering an
d climbing in world-famous Rocklands (featured in several issues, including the December issue of Climbing Magazine), two weeks climbing the endless walls in Montagu, and smearing the limestone crags in Oudtshoorn.
Future destinations include (fall - spring)*:
AGE, based in Ashland, Oregon, in the beautiful Siskiyou Mountains, spends eight weeks of each semester traveling in a foreign country. Their trips are designed to allow students the opportunity to both familiarize themselves with and participate in the local community and culture. Homestays, community service projects, school visitations, and cultural events are incorporated into each semester's curriculum and itinerary.
