Volunteers needed for Bodcau Mountain Bike Trail

The Bodcau Wildlife Management is calling on volunteers to help with the Bodcau Mountain Bike Trail this coming Saturday at the Bodcau Wildlife Management Area.

The trail is also commonly kn own around the area as the Durden Hills Nature Trail, which has been developed and maintained by a group of volunteers.

According to Gary Rainwater, event organizer, the group now aimed to take the venture a step forward. The group plan to clean out the trail area as well as install wooden fence and bridges.

Meeting point for interested volunteers will be at the trailhead near Bodcau Dam and Reservoir Recreation area. The event will be held in along with the National Public Lands Day.

NorCal HS Holds Mountain Bike Leader's Summit

The NorCal High School Mountain Bike League and USA Cycling will be hosting the first ever National Leader's Summit, a three day conference that merges on-the-bike clinics along with professional develop ment seminars.

The event will be held this coming October 26 to 28 in Fairfax, California. Event participants include high school mountain bike coaches, assistant coaches, ride leaders, parent volunteers and anyone else interested in organizing youth cycling programs.

This year's summit is entitled, Integral Coaching for Positive Youth Development. The program aims to promote and encourage comprehensive coaching that will create an environment that will facilitate growth and development in young people.

Mountain Bikers Petition at Augustana College

A mountain biker from Augustana College, David Webb started a petition to school's Cabinet to give permission to turn the hilly, stair-filled c campus into a bike race.

Last year, Webb first a pproached the Cabinet to request permission to use the said area for a bike race. However, the Cabinet turned down Webb’s proposal due to insurance issues as well as lack of support.

According to the college's spokesman Kirby Winn, the school’s main concern is safety and liability. Moreover, Winn added that such event would also require a significant amount of support from the student body.

Meanwhile, Webb began an online petition by uploaded a video on YouTube showing him using the proposed course.

Mountain Bike Events for Kids at Toro County Park

The Monterey Off Road Cycling Association will be hosting a mountain bike event for kids, entitled "Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day". The event is scheduled to take place this coming October 6 and will be h eld at the Toro County Park.

The much awaited event in the local mountain biking calendar is part of a national celebration presented by the International Mountain Biking Association, who aims to encourage young mountain bikers.

The Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day will include rides for children suitable for all ages, a bike skills park, barbecue as well as a raffle.

The event is open to children of all ages. Registration is absolutely free. The only charge is the park entrance fee.

Bike the Park Series at the Beech Fork State Park

The West Virginia Mountain Bike Association held their last Bike the Park Series last Saturday, September 22. The much awaited event was held at the Beech Fork State Park. The event started at around ten in the morning.

The event was offered to beginners in mountain biking. The program's itinerary includes a skills clinic as well as group riding. The riders were categorized by skill level.

The Bike the Park Series kicked off last April at Twin Falls Resort State Park in Mullens. From then on they held monthly rides at different state parks across West Virginia such as in Stonewall Jackson Resort State Park and Chief Logan State Park.
