Friends Through Thick and Thin
WEDNESDAY, 27 JUNE 2007
Today, the friends of Chris Oberle will hold a fundraiser for him to help in his medication and for his immediate recovery. Oberle was the Tahoe-resident cyclist who was paralyzed from the waist down in a recent mountain biking accident. He was mountain biking in Santa Barbara when he fell and disengaged his spinal cord. At present, Oberle is currently getting his strength back in Colorado.
The said fundraiser is set to crop up at the Hacienda de la Sierra at around 6-9 pm. In order to raise funds, Oberle’s friends settled on charging the dinner for $20, that which already includes tax, tip, and a contribution to Oberle’s medical fund. And to enliven the upcoming event further, the organizers invited the singing group After 8 to provide the music. They also created a scrapbook for Oberle which showcases the cyclist’s snap shots while mountain biking and other mementos that remind his friends of him.
A true fighter and survivor, Oberle is admired by his friends for his strong determination to recover and get back on his feet again. Moreover, his friends also find the way he deals and handles his sudden disability as a great inspiration.
"He is doing so good. It's such an inspiration," Oberle’s friend, Kim Wood said. "He has the best attitude."
For those who would want to help and contribute for the immediate recovery of Oberle, you may send your donations to Plumas Bank. Kindly write a note “to be deposited in Chris Oberle’s account” to Plumas Bank, P.O Box 1499, Kings Beach, CA 96143.
