A Game of Two Heads
SATURDAY, 30 JUNE 2007
It’s really two heads that are better as one in the first-ever B.C. Bike Race, which is set to start this coming July 1, 2007. The said one-of-a-kind biking race is set to test the endurance, speed, strength, and compatibility of the riders.
Unlike the usual bike races, the B.C. Bike Race will have two riders riding together the whole time. The team will race the 560-km trail that mixes the facets of marathon, adventure, and stage racing. The most well-balanced team and the one who works together as one will be judged as the winner.
Dubbed as one of the most prestigious cycling events in the world, the B.C. Bike Race will have well-celebrated mountain bike stage racers of United States and hardcore weekend warriors as participants. In fact, the world’s top 24-hour solo mountain bike rider, Chris Eatough, will participate in the event race.
"It appeals to me for a lot of reasons -- the endurance factor for one and the terrain in B.C. is very appealing to me," said Eatough. "It's going to be a great challenge. I've raced in B.C. a lot. It's got some of the best trails in the world."
According to Eatough, who will race with teammate Jeff Schalk, he decided to join the event race not only for the scenery, but also for the game itself. "This is my job, and my sponsors like it when I win, so that's part of my goal." said the 32-year-old Baltimore native. "But it's also more than that. It's a great challenge and a great training tool for my other races. Frankly, it's the best training I can do."
Aside from testing the endurance of the riders, the B.C. Bike Race also aims to promote camaraderie and teamwork among cyclists.
