A Busy Riding Day for Londoners
THURSDAY, 28 JUNE 2007
As early as now, London mayor, Ken Livingstone and some local officials of London are already preparing for the upcoming Hovis London Freewheel event which will happen three months from now.
Together with Blue Peter representative, Konnie Huq, Mayor Livingstone launched last Tuesday, June 26, 2007, a free 14 km. circular ride between St. James' Park and Tooley Street in preparation for the aforementioned Hovis London Freewheel event which is set to excite the London residents on September 23, 2007.
According to Mayor Livingstone, the local government of London is making sure that the 14 km central London route will be traffic-free during the event to allow thousands of riders to bike around the streets and enjoy the wonderful sights of the city. Furthermore, Mayor Livingstone also adds that the reason why he decided to launch this kind of activity is for the Londoners to be encouraged to try cycling again and be indulged with the type of relaxation and fun this sport could give them.
Mayor Livingstone also shares the course that the riders will take for the upcoming Hovis London Freewheel. First, the riders will cross the river at London Bridge, then to Duke Street Hill and Tolley Street, going to Queen Elizabeth Street, and the last stop will be at the Potters Fields Park.
To make the event even more exciting and fun-filled for the cyclists, the organizers thought of putting six Freewheel Hubs across London where riders can gather before proceeding to the vehicle-free route. What’s even great about this is that, the riders could let their bikes be checked for free by experts.
Aside from this cycling activity, participants may also take part in the Freewheel Festival where they could enjoy a stress-free day of getting together, watching trial bike stunts, cycling acrobatics, and cycling circus.
"This September, the Hovis London Freewheel will give Londoners a unique opportunity to have a go themselves and cycle past the capital's most iconic sights on roads without other traffic," says Mayor Livingstone. “The event will be a free, fun celebration of cycling aimed at everyone particularly those people who have a bike but haven't ridden for a while."
Registration is now open and could be filled up at www.londonfreewheel.com.
