China's Ren Chengyuan wins her first World Cup
WEDNESDAY, 25 APRIL 2007
Ren Chengyuan from China has won the first cross country round of the 2007 UCI World Cup in Houffalize, Belgium.
Chengyuan has beaten other top riders like Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjaa, Margarita Fullana, and Spitz Sabine. Dahle-Flesjaa, Fullana, and Sabine finished second, third, and fourth places, respectively. Chengyuans's win came as a big surprise during the event. Her teammate, Jingjing Wang, has finished fifth, proving that the Chinese riders are a strong team in the 2008 Olympics that will be held in their home country.
Dahle-Flesjaa says that finishing second is not too bad at a World Cup. The problem, she says, is that people expect her to win all the time, which is not always possible. She also said that it is not surprising that the Chinese riders did great because they improve better every year.
