Cyclists and Officials Talk About Trail Issues
WEDNESDAY, 28 MARCH 2007
Officials from Marin County are resolving a trail dispute with mountain bike enthusiasts. Previously, county workers have put barbed wire across Cat Creek Trail, an illegal trail, in an effort to dissuade mountain bikers from using it.
Many bikers have been dismayed; they even said that trespassers do not have to get injuries. Lisa Luzzi, a founding member of Access 4 Bikes, has said that what happened would also recur on other trails and affect other mountain bikers. "This is an issue that needs to be addressed," she said.
Open Space District General Manager Sharon McNamee, on the other hand, said that she would invite cyclist advocacy groups’ representatives to participate in a meeting together with fellow representatives from the county, Marin Municipal Water District, state and national park managers. Cyclists approve of the plan. "It's time for all of us to work together," Alex Burnham, president of Access 4 Bikes, said.
