Mountain Biking Padding
Depending what type of mountain biker you are, you perhaps need shorts with Padding. Recreational bikers and Downhill Mountain Bikers who do not bike for a long time on a row, do not need padded shorts. But for Cross-country and Endurance Racers who sit on the saddle for a long time it is definitely recommended to use shorts with padding.
Using a Mountain Bike or Cycling Shorts will make it more comfortable for you and offer more padding and protection where you need it. They help reduce the agony of the seat after spending long hours on the saddle. In addition, Mountain Bike Shorts also protect you from chafing. DO NOT BE A FOOL and wait too long for buying your padded shorts. Padded shorts are substantially more comfortable, especially if you are not as skinny as you once were. Toilet breaks are a bit more hassle but that inconvenience is hugely compensated by being more comfortable on the bike.
For women, be sure to buy padded shorts specifically made for women. Women's shorts have wider pads and therefore provide added protection at the right place. Synthetic chamois pads are recommended since they require low maintenance and are washing-machine compatible.
Padded Shorts come in a wide variety. Padded Shorts are handy as you do not need to worry that they will come off. Padded knickers can also be quite handy as you may wear them below you biking shorts without padding. When it is getting colder, you might want to buy padded tights as these will keep you legs warm.
