Besides Cross-Country Mountain Biking, Downhill Mountain Biking, Freeride and Endurance Mountain Biking, there are also a number of Mountain Biking Races that are not yet covered by these disciplines. In this section, get acquainted with other races in the world of Mountain Biking:

Mountain Bike Lap Racing
The world championships and Olympics usually follow multi-lap racing formats. Riders race around a marked course. A rider may only get refreshments from designated places and may not receive outside assistance, especially technical assistance. In this manner, the rider must always be ready for anything (flat tires, broken chain, loose brakes, etc.). The riders must complete the race with the bikes they have started with. The bike may be carried and pushed in tackling the course. This type of format was made such in order to make Mountain Biking spectator- and TV-friendly. The multi-lap format allows spectators to see the riders over a short period of time.

Dual Elimination
In this type of competition, two riders start at the same time and race each other to the finish. The winner moves on to the next round and paired with another winner. The loser is eliminated. This goes on until two are left wherein the winner will be the overall winner and the loser will take second place.

Mountain Bike Dual Slalom Racing
Riders go through a shorter course with jumps, sharp corners, and a sequence of gates to negotiate. The elimination process is similar to that of Dual Elimination.

Duel
This is a mix of Dual Elimination and Dual Slalom. The riders start at different starting lanes and the course merges into one lane at the first corner. This makes the course appear tight and narrow, leaving little room for the two riders. Body contact is allowed and the riders "duel" to the finish.
