Mountain Bike Gear

Hi,
I have just started mountain bike riding and live in Tasmania which has a mild to very cold climate, especially at elevation.
Can someone please give me some advise on what type of gloves are best for these climates as my hands have been killing me in the few rides I have taken. Also a recommend for glasses would be appreciated.

try full-fingered gloves to protect it from the cold. it'll also help you with the grip especially downhill
