Cycling Holiday in the Quiet Tracks in Catalonia
In the north of Catalunya volcanic cones mark the green landscape of La Garrotxa Natural Park. In this park we have selected the comfortable rural hotel Can Blanc as your home base for several rather easy bicycle tours, although you may venture further up into the foothills of the Pyrenees. Can Blanc has a private swimming pool and is only a few steps away from one of the best restaurants of La Garrotxa. After five days you follow a Via Verde -an old train track which has been converted to a quiet cycling trail, through the rural landscape right into the old centre of Gerona. You can spend your last day in this medieval town, with colourful houses overhanging the river, but it’s also possible to follow the Via Verde to the coast

| Day 1 |
Can Blanc, near Olot, a small town in the north of Catalunya which can be reached by bus from Barcelona or Gerona.
|
| Day 2 |
A logical start seems to be a visit to the Museum and the information centre of the La Garrotxa Natural Park. From there you can make an easy tour through the centre of the park, along two of it’s most famous volcanos, the Croscat and Santa Margarida. On foot you can descend into the cone of Santa Margarida where a little chapel has been built, or admire the l. ayers of volcanic stone in the former mine of Croscat. Stay at Can Blanc
|
| Day 3 |
A rather flat and easy track that takes you south from Olot through the rural landscape with its picturesque villages and typical farmhouses, with covered porches. From San Privat d’en Bas in 2 hours you can walk up and back along a small river to a natural swimming pool at the foot of a little waterfall. Stay at Can Blanc.
|
| Day 4 |
A circular tour into the foothills of the Pyrenees, along the basalt formations of Castellfolit and into the valleys of Montagut and Saderne. Stay at Can Blanc
|
| Day 5 |
The last day at Olot you spend in the northern part of the Natural Park along quiet country roads. It’s possible to take a walk to St Julia peak with outstanding views of Garrotxa and the Pyrenees. Stay at Can Blanc
|
| Day 6 |
Today no traffic will bother you, since you’ll cycle along the Via Verde from Olot to Gerona following an old train track. Lovely rural landscape and little towns such as St Feliu de Pallerolls. At the end you cycle right into the old centre of Gerona, to the enormous cathedral. Your charming little hotel, with patio, is just around the corner. Stay in Gerona
|
| Day 7 |
Gerona has a lot to offer in the way of interesting buildings and museums, so you could spend your last day in town. But of course you can also follow the via verde to the beach and take a train or bus back to Gerona. Stay in Gerona
